Bringing Back a 182 Year Old Christmas Tradition

Bringing Back a 182 Year Old Christmas Tradition

Sir Henry Cole, a civil servant in 1843 England, had a problem. He had too many friends, acquaintances and family members. One would think this was a wonderful problem to have, except at Christmas. It was considered incredibly rude to not send a letter at Christmas and with 1000 people to write to he was quite distressed at how he would ever complete such a monumental task.

Being a man with a penchant for problem solving, he came up with the idea of a Christmas postcard. It was illustrated by John Callcott Horsley and each card cost 1 shilling (about $8.80USD in today's dollars).

The cards were a huge success and a new tradition was born.

Today most Christmas Cards are folded with lots of space to write and an envelope to address and sent them. We want to bring back the original concept of a card that is quick and easy to fill out to send to people as well as less expensive to buy and send.

There is something special about getting a real piece of mail that you can put on a mantel or your desk (and that isn't a bill!). Social media messages are fleeting where a card lingers for the season.

So, let's bring back something good, together.
